Ford Motor Company (Ford) is a iconic automobile manufacturer in the United States, based out of Detroit. Ford was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated in the early 1900s and quickly began introducing ways to manufacture on a large scale and using assembly lines. Behind General Motors, Ford is the second largest automaker in the U.S. and fifth largest worldwide. Ford is known for manufacturing and marketing cars, trucks, SUVs, electric vehicles, and luxury vehicles through Lincoln.
Recalls & Issues
Recently, in the beginning of 2020, Ford had to announce to the public that the company was recalling over 200,000 vehicles, both cars and SUVs, for suspension system defects.
Ford stated that the suspension system defect could move while driving, causing the vehicle to lose stability while on the road. Similarly, back in 2019, Ford had to recall millions of its models, including Explorer SUVs and Ecoline trucks for a similar suspension system defect.
One of the biggest safety flaws that Ford faced was a design issue that affected over a million Ford F-150s due to transmission failures. The recall stated that these trucks were at a risk for sudden downshifting, which could cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. This design flaw affected F-150s on 2011 through 2013 models.
